Buying or Selling a Firearm to Another California Resident?

Most firearm transfers between private individuals in California must be completed through a licensed firearms dealer.

For a typical Private Party Transfer (PPT), the buyer and seller come to Clear Sky Armory together with the firearm. We’ll handle the required paperwork, submit the transaction to California DOJ, securely hold the firearm during the required waiting period, and deliver it to the buyer once all legal requirements have been satisfied.

What Does a Private Party Transfer Cost?

For one firearm:

California DOJ/State Fees: $37.19
Clear Sky Armory PPT Fee: $10.00 (CA DOJ Mandated Amount)
Total: $47.19

Additional firearms transferred in the same transaction are $10 each.

An additional $25 cost will apply if the buyer needs a Firearm Safety Certificate. Also, transferred long guns cannot leave the shop without a lock. If the transferred firearm does not have a lock, we can provide one for $7.99. Transferred handguns cannot leave the shop unless they are in a locked case. If the transferred handgun does not have a hard case, we can provide one for $14.99.

There is a 10 day hold period for all Private Party Transfers. We do not charge a storage fee during the hold period. However, we do charge $1 / day per firearm for every day that we hold the firearm past the hold period. This is because storage space is limited and private party transfers is not profitable for FFLs.
